The Phantom:
A Publishing History in Australia

These two giveaway comics were produced by Garage Graphix for the Australian Electoral Commission. They were large format comics (210mm x 295mm) designed to educate the Aboriginal community about how to enrol and vote. The two issues were The Phantom Enrols & Votes (1988, 8pp) and Vote 1 Phantom (1990, 16pp). In the second issue, The Phantom campaigns for, and is elected as a member of Skull Cave Shire Council!

These comics represent the first Australian-created Phantom stories, since they predated Frew's first Phantom story Rumble in the Jungle (#951A) by about two years. They were written by Alistair Legge and drawn by an unnamed artist. Admittedly, the artwork is rather poor.
