From Sep 1972 to Jul 1975 Avon books published 15 Phantom adventures in paperback. All but The Mystery of the Sea Horse are based on Lee Falk's original stories. George Wilson was commissioned to do the excellent art work for the covers. The details for each book are given below:

Notes:
- #1 also featured stories as read from the Phantom Chronicles about Queen Natala (S64), the Golden Beach of Keela-Wee (S69), the Rope People (S29), the Female Phantom (S32), and The Chain (S34). In this book, the 20th Phantom met his death in a different fashion to that told in 1957 in the story The Belt (S37).
- early printings of #15 were credited to Carson Bingham. Under threat of legal action from Lee Falk, the author was corrected on subsequent printings.
- Frank S. Shawn is the pen-name of Ron Goulart
- Carson Bingham is the pen-name of Bruce Cassidy
